A love letter to our Instruments!

I (Lisa) have written this page so you can get an overview of all our instruments we regularely use. Good equipment is important in order to achieve a real good sound. Not everything expensive is of good quality. We know that. But we have been quite lucky with our "stall". And some instruments we have purchased at very low cost are our favourite pieces today. You won't believe it, but the biggest part comes from a food discounter and from e-bay. Most of our instruments we have bought on the used market to save money. Our Dad meanwhile is a true champion in "bargain hunting" as well as in "refining" guitars.

So here is my personal declaration of love to each single instrument:

> Bass Guitar            > Keyboard
> Guitars                  > Saxophone
> Drums                   > Percussion Instruments

Beatles Hoefner e-bass
The e-bass "Dumdum"

- Dumdum -  (the e-bass)

You are the bass of the family. I'm bound to say a real good bass! Although you are just an imitation of a "Hoefner" Beatles bass you sound exactly as we wanted you to sound. Well, the bass is rather the main instrument of my Dad (I prefer guitars). You are really great! You sound great and you are nearly never "out of tune". Though your look takes getting used to ... Sorry, don't take it personally, we all love you very much!

Lisa's "Candy"
Lisa's "Candy"

- Candy -  (the black/white e-guitar)

I love you! You are the best J!!! Hey guys, you'll never find such a piece every day. I would say "Candy" is one of our cheapest guitars. I know that sounds embarrassing, but she's the one from the supermarket. But for now, away with the prejudice. Our most expensive guitar is not a quarter as perfect as my "Candy". I have to say that she was my very first guitar which has been adjusted very well as time went by. Anyhow, I send you a big kiss and say THAAAAAANK YOU!

Mona's Guitar
Mona's half-acoustic guitar "Jack"

- Jack -  (Mona's brown half-acoustic guitar)

You are our half-acoustic guitar, or rather Mona's. Most of the time she plays and exercises on you, even though you didn't show to advantage at our 1st concert yet. But in return you were chosen to acompany us to America where you had your big appearance in all three "California Videos". I find you are the prettiest and most elegant of our guitars! Mona was really glad when you were presented to her and that did not change till now. We all took you into our hearts!

Yamaha acoustic guitar
Our acoustic guitar with integrated microphone

- Musterkind -  (= "goody goody")

You are our newest guitar family member. From the beginning you have distinguished yourself as "goody-goody". Your integrated microphone is just great. You are beautiful, you sound great and you are comfortable to play. We don't know you that well yet but we will make real use of you in the near future. Be prepared!

Update July 2008: You too have come to the US with us when we taped our videos down in California. "Survived" the big journey across the pond very well!

Our "Line 6"
Our "Line 6"

- ALF -  (means "Außerordentlich Liebenswerter Fielkönner" J = "extremely adorable alrounder"   - our "Line 6")

You are our multifunctional guitar. With your integrated sounds you are able to imitate a whole bunch of string instrument sounds - wether a Hawaii guitar or an exotic Ukulele! With you we can also imitate a 12 string guitar like the Beatles have played them. Many times you have bailed us out already with your sounds. Even though you are not really comfortable to play you are still very helpful. Thaaaanks!!!

Update July 2008: Exactly with these sounds - Sitar and Mandoline - we have jazzed up our song "San Francisco" to get this psychedelic background.

three blue acoustic guitars
The blue acoustic trio

- Cherry, Larry und Mary -
(Our 3 blue acoustic guitars)

Cherry, Larry und Mary are our three blue acoustic guitars. Besides Cherry is a western guitar. You have been as cheep as dirt but you sound like some 1000 $ guitars! You are easy to play and have done a very good job already. Even though the western guitar wasn't played very much till now it is good to have some nice, reliable, normal acoustic guitars. You are great for practicing!

Our 2 "America"-Guitars

our "America" guitars
One of our "America" guitars had to be pink by any means. But we didn't dare to perform publicly with it.

Unfortunately you are not ours anymore (Well, you anyway haven't been very good ones.) These two guitars are named "America-Guitars" because we bought them during our 4 week holidays in California. They were e-bay purchases too (like the blue trio). They have been a little more expensive, but not as good as the blue ones. Sorry, we have to say that ...

... Well, don't be upset! You also have helped us very much. Even so we had to practice for our concert in our holidays. We couldn't have managed that whithout you. By the way - we have beautified you a lot before we presented you to our guitar teacher jOHn. He had much pleasure with you - you will always remember him of us. And who knows, perhaps we can borrow you from him some day when we come back to California for vacation.

- Groovy -  (the glitter red acoustic drum set)

our red acoustic drum set
"Groovy", the acoustic drum set

You are our first drum set. As you unfortunately are not overly good you meanwhile have been replaced by the e-drum. But you have taught Mona to play drums and so she still loves you though she doesn't play very much on you anymore. Your disadvantage mainly is that we would need thousands of microphones to record your different sounds. So please, don't be jealous, Mona did play many nice things on you.

E-Drum (Roland TD 12)
The e-drum has many advantages

- Ringo -  (the e-drum)

We turned it over in our minds if we should buy a second, better acoustic drum set or a good electronic one. Finally we decided to purchase a "Roland TD12" electonic set. It is definitely easier to record than a "normal" drum set. Besides we can regulate the volume and it can be played with headphones which is very handy while practicing. Of course it has some hundred nice features but I just say: Thank you, you are great!

Congas
The Conga-Sisters

The Congas

You haven't really been in the center of our performances yet. But we definitely love your sound and your design. And there are songs where a drum set has no chance against you. Who knows, perhaps we will compose a song just for you one day? Let's see. Anyway, don't be sad, we love you very much. You have been a perfect Christmas present!

Bongos
The Bongo-Boys

The Bongos

Christ Child didn't have to struggle with you that much like with the congas. Even though you are much smaller you are allowed to stand at eye-level with your big sisters - a long metal pillar allows that. After all you are an (un)beatable combination. Many thanks to our grandparents who provided Christ Child with such good advice!

shaker, egg, tambourine, cabasa
Our percussion ensemble

Shaker, Egg, Tamburin, Cabasa, ...

You are the most unimposing of our percussion instruments. Many people think that one can play you in passing because it looks so easy. Don't care! We know that it's not exactly like that. Of course it needs some practicing to charm sounds and rhythms out of you. With you we can zest many songs but one has to know how to do that, right? Anyway, we have made busy use of you already because we know your worth!

Daddy's Keyboard

Keyboard
Daddy's keyboard is our real whizz-kid - always ready and usable for many purposes: for transposing, arranging, composing, ...

We own you for many years now. At times of our Daddy's recording studio productions you have accompanied him faithfully. You are the fixed star of our "family". Even though you are not really a front instrument on stage, our Dad can charm many fantastic soli out of you. You are reliable and you are able to do a lot of things! As we are just only four band members you must yield to the bass from time to time. But sometimes you are allowed to play the bass lines and the melodies, as e. g. in Stand by me. You enable us to tune to your innumerable sounds and rhythms. Therefore we mainly use you for composing and arranging. And when Daddy is doing all the playbacks for our practicing it's anyway your turn. Without you we definitely would be lost!

Michaela's Alto Saxophone
Michaela's Alto Sax from the  Schagerl Academica-Series

- Bluemchen -  (= "floret" - the "golden" Saxophone)

Your are the gold piece of our instrumental family! Of course you're not of gold but just pretend to be. Be honest, very likely you are just of simple brass, right? Nonetheless, without you we wouldn't be complete any more ;) Your beautiful tone, your nice design with the engraved flower, ... you have become an important part of our band. Even though none of us except Michaela is able to play you, you are beloved by all of us!
