James Blunt
was
born in 1974 and is a british singer and songwriter who got known
already with his debut album "Back to Bedlam" in
2005. His music style is considered a mixture of Jazz and Pop-Rock.
Blunt does not only sing, he also plays guitar, piano, organ and
marimba (a percussion instrument of the Xylophone's family).
In 2006 he was the first british artist after nearly 10 years who landed a number 1 hit in the American charts with You're Beautiful. The last british guy who managed to chart in the US was Elton John with Candle in the Wind in 1997.
Blunt's father was member of the British Army, his family has a long military tradition. Thus the singer also was an Officer in the Life Guards, then he rose to the rank of Captain and served in Kosovo. During this time he wrote the song No Bravery.
One year after he parted the Army he started his career as a singer and songwriter. His first single High did not reach the charts but in return was the title song of the Vodafone commercials in Italy and thus became a top 10 hit there. By that he was worldwidely broadcasted on TV in the context of the soccer world cup.
After Blunt performed as an opening act on Elton John's tour in 2004 his 3rd single You're Beautiful brought him the international breakthrough.
Since end of 2005 he got, among others, an MTV Europe Music Award, zwei Brit Awards und einen Echo. It is said that till today this album internationally had sold 11 million times which culminated in a Guiness World Records entry in 2005 - as the best-selling album in the UK, with 2.368.000 copies within one year.
James Blunt himself describes his Goodbye my lover as a death march, but he doesn't give further details.
