> Videos at Ayers Rock, Australia Live Music Videos at Ayers Rock/AustraliaMonday, 13 April 2009
Nothing and no one is safe from us - not even the big, lonesome red rock in the middle of the Australian nowhere. I'm sure you've seen a picture of this impressive mount yet, most of the time in bright red of sunrise or sunset. Ayers Rock is very famous, also known as "Uluru", the name he was given by the Aboriginals.
It got "occupied" by us in the Easter holidays!
Our parents came over to visit us and we did a caravan-trip in the
outback. Late in the morning, after we had done some video-shooting
at sunrise and had enjoyed a yummy brunch, we dared to climb the
rock.
No, that’s not an overstatement. The rock is very steep and slippery! The only kind of safety precaution is a metal chain for helping people to pull themselves up. This hasn't changed since when our grandparents visited Ayers Rock like 20 years ago. Still there are no steps or prepared paths as for the Aboriginals Uluru and its surroundings are holy sites that are not to break or spoil. Uluru belongs to them and they "lend" it us tourists to admire it and experience it's magic. To walk downhill is even more dangerous cause the rock is getting steeper towards the bottom (see the black silhouette on the pic). If you slip, all you can hope is to slide down safely on your butt. Shortly before sunset we were walking round the rock, protected by our flynets (there are around 2 Billions flies ^^), when we found a little cave with excellent acoustics. THAT! was the perfect place to record two new videos for you! Quasi as a sign of life as you haven't heard from us in a long time. So we hurried back to the car to get our guitars, headed back and looked for a nice place to sit. Daddy was at the ready with his camera yet. By the way, we recorded without any micros or any other technical support. As you will notice the sound quality is excellent. The reason for that is the awesome acoustics inside the rock, Dad's top quality videocam and our great new guitars. Yeah, and that WE played them :) of course … ^^
In both songs Lisa (left) plays on Mona's Western
steelstring and Mona (right) on Lisa's 12 string guitar. Both are
"Maton"s (an Australian guitar brand) and just sound awesome. We
bought them right at the beginning of our exchange semester and are
still so much in love with them.
We chose two songs for you to record: One of them, of course, had to be a Beatles song (Beatles! the word alone makes me all smiles ^.^), this time we chose "Eight Days a Week".
The other one is a great kind of reggae stylish
song by Jason Mraz called "I'm Yours" which we decided
to interprete less reggae and a bit faster than the original. In
both songs we focussed on the harmonies as this just gives a great
effect and makes the songs lively. In the background you can see the endless planes of the Australian "Outback". Heaps of red sand as well as trees, bushes and grasses in all browns and greens dominate the typical landscape which in some areas reminded us a bit of Africa. The only thing that was a bit annoying were the billions and trillions of flies hurry-scurrying us. But for the video we thought it may be better to take off our black flynets which we have been wearing outside most of the time. That would have looked funny as, wouldn’t it? So don’t wonder about us shaking our heads or wiping off the one or other exemplar.
*but no longer putting you out of our mysery now*
That was a short greeting back home and to the entire world! We’re doing absolutely-awesomely-super-perfectly great here and we simply love it! We hope you enjoyed our songs. If yes, feel free to tell all of your friends and get on their hair until they visit our page too :))
Cheers,
