"Comenius" Students' Exchange

Monday, 28 January 2008

It all started with a music teacher of our school asking us shortly after the Teacher's Celebration, if we wouldn't like to play again. This time it was about an event with exchange students from Turkey. Students from our Polgar Highschool should tell our Turkish guests something about Vienna by using Powerpoint presentations, films and audio samples.

Of course we agreed and finally we played today.

The day started very well - like every Monday, since for us school starts at 9 am instead of 8 am on Monday mornings. But today it continued that delightfully. Mrs. Ofterdinger, the music teacher, freed us from all 6 lessons, so that we could help installing all equipment and instruments.

After that we rehearsed and the rest of the time we played together with other musicians, after all we weren't the only ones who were freed from the classes ;)

Our "I will" was the ending song of the Students' Exchange Event.

Eventually the bell rang the 6th hour which was our start signal! Basically the program said that the jazz dancers would start and that we would play Samba Pa Ti afterwards. Then the 6D (10th graders) should sing their song, we should continue with I will and then the 6D again with their self-composed song "Chipsy Rocks". For the end the 5th graders were supposed to sing "Amadeus", Falcos song. (The links will bring you to our live concert versions.)

But as often everything happened a bit differently, because the dancers had some problems and needed to perform later. And also our performance didn't work that well. Maxi (a drummer from the 6D) accompanied our "Samba Pa Ti" on the congas. We rehearsed it two times before, but during the performance some silly mistakes occurred ... Our friends told us that nobody had noticed, but tomorrow we will watch the video a friend recorded for us. Then we will see (or better hear) how it really sounded.

The 6D was great as always and the 1F was soooooo cute :) The jazz dancers finally danced and also our "I will" passed off nicely. With that the concert ended.

All together we have cleared away everything. Afterwards we had our optional subject guitar lesson. A day full of music - what's better than that?

I have to admit that's my taste ;)

Yours, Mona
