A serenade for our teachers

Friday, 9 November 2007

You want to know what happened at the teacher's celebration? Well, I don't exactly know what they celebrated there in detail. I just know that some of our teachers were honored resp. were appointed Superior Educational Counsellors and another teacher was said goodbye to retirement. But I (Lisa) better tell you the whole story:

At one music lesson our guitar teacher Mr. Pochendorfer asked us if we wouldn't like to perform some songs at a teacher's celebration. We okayed and agreed to sing Wild World, Michelle and Mr. Tambourine Man. (The links will bring you to our concert versions of MonaLisa & Band).

Mr. Pochendorfer also suggested us to invite our drum teacher Mr. Goehr to play with us. Mr. Goehr was very delighted and so we started to rehearse. Mr. Pochendorfer accompanied us on his guitar, and Mr. Goehr on his drums. At home we practiced our parts, and then we were ready to start. Surprisingly we weren't that nervous this time.

As the celebration should start after the 6th lesson we got freed of our last lesson :) in order to help with the installation of equipment and instruments in the assembly hall. We plugged in the cables in the speakers, did a soundcheck, ate a little bit and warmed up on our instruments. Our "stage" consisted of 2 loudspeakers, one mixing console, 3 chairs, the guitars and the drums and was situated in the left corner of our school assembly hall. So there we sat down and waited ...

Soon the teachers arrived in dribs and drabs from all sides of the hall and took their seats. Some of them still had to teach, so it took a while until everyone was in.

In the meantime we asked our girlfriend Lina to record and video tape everything with our cell phone. She sat down in the audience, where meanwhile our class teacher, our principal and the Viennese School Board staff members completed the teacher's group. At that point we started to get nervous a little, but we hadn't much time to quiver as they started immediately.

Headset-mikrophones are very practical when one accompanies himself on the guitar.

Our first song was Wild World, quasi as an opening.  We were followed by partly very funny and entertaining speeches in between which we were allowed to perform our songs. Of course it didn't escape our notice that our class teacher, Mrs. Lobis, cheered us on from the last row. Thank you!

At the end the music teachers, Mr. Goehr, Mr. Pochendorfer and Mr. Eichberger performed a very funny version of "Fire". That means, Mr. Goehr sang the song with a different text - instead of "fire" it said "retire" (because one of the teachers got retired).

Then the celebration was at it's end and we got much praise from various people. We are very glad, that especially we had been invitated to join the celebration with our music.

Both pictures were kindly provided by another teacher, Mr. Gerald Kurz. Thank you!
