Instrumental
line-up of the MonaLisa-Version
You ask why we chose this of all songs for our concert song repertory?
Well, while thinking about songs we could play for our concert we were listening to a CD for getting ideas. On this CD there also was this song Aufsteh'n (which means "getting up"). Mona and I always liked it. We all found it quite hot as it was really "groovy". Our Daddy suggested us to play it for the concert. First Mona and I didn't understand how this should work as we couldn't play 10 instruments at once.
Our Dad said he would make us a playback on the keyboard that we could sing along with. After some days he had us listen to what he had created. It sounded really cool and there was nearly no difference to the original. So we started our work: Finding the original lyrics on the internet, printing it and learning it by heart. Mona and I divided up the verses and started to rap J.
It took us quite some time to learn the lyrics which is a bit ample. In order to know what we were going to sing we had to look up some of the English words and translate them. Then it was about to sing those words in accordance with the rhythm. Partly there were some heavy crackjaws to sing. After all, we wanted to get across this song's absolutely cool groove.
But the real difficulty actually weren't the vocals but the performance itself. During all other songs we were playing drums or guitar. While singing Aufsteh'n we were alone on stage and totally in the center point. So we couldn't just stand around and sing. Of course we had to move with the rhythm. But it seemed to be easier than it actually was. Puh! Suddendly we had got our hands free (what to do with them now?) and we also had to stand up. Singing Aufsteh'n (Getting up) while sitting on bar stools comes poorly J.
We thought about some choreography we could study but everything we tried just appeared artificial. At the end we decided to let ourselves get infected by the music and not to be too nervous. According to the audience's reactions we obviously weren't bad.
